Why Unit Prices Matter
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) states that unit prices help consumers compare prices and find the best value for money. By showing the cost per standard unit, such as per kilogram or per litre, unit pricing makes it easier to see which product offers the better deal.
Rules on Unit Pricing
There are rules about who must display unit prices, where, how, and for what products. These rules set out the obligations for businesses and help ensure that consumers have consistent information when shopping.
The ACCC’s Role
The ACCC works to enforce these rules and provides guidance to both businesses and consumers. If you have a consumer issue, you can report it to the ACCC. The ACCC also acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands across Australia and pays respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
