Canada raises study permit funds requirement to CAD 23,448 from Sept 1

What is the new requirement?

Starting September 1, Canada will require study permit applicants to show they have CAD 23,448 in funds. This amount applies to applications submitted on or after that date.

Why is it changing?

The increase reflects updated financial requirements for international students. The new figure ensures applicants have sufficient funds to cover living costs while studying in Canada.

Who does this affect?

This applies to all new study permit applications submitted on or after September 1. Existing permit holders are not affected, and there is no change for applications submitted before that date.

What should applicants do?

Applicants should plan to have the required funds available and be prepared to submit proof with their application. The exact documentation requirements remain as specified by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
